200 Charpais Delivered!

We are happy to say that the last 140 of the 200 charpais are now delivered to the Northern Bypass camp outside Karachi. The whole operation went off without a hitch. Thank you everyone who donated! We  still are looking for and organization or company (or individual) willing to match the raised amount. We will use this money to provide blankets with each charpai as the nights will become quite cold quite quickly. If you know of anyone that is willing to take us up on this challenge, let us know.

60 Charpais delivered

Last Friday we delivered 60  Charpais to the Norhtern Bypass relief camp. The Charpais were ordered through Khyber Phuktunwa Charpai house located in Quaidabad. The 60 cots were delivered in two Suzukis pick ups. At the camp, Mr. Afaq Bhatti had handed out tickets to collect the beds. Priority was given to families who had kids, women who had just given birth, and physically disabled people who were sleeping on the ground.

Charpai Donation Effort Reaches $3,000!

It’s official! The Charpai Donation Effort has reached $3,000!

Thanks to your generous donations, 200 people will sleep in a bed instead of on the ground. We are so grateful that so many people we know have been willing to share to make another person’s life substantially better. We will be delivering the first batch of 60 beds, soon, and will be recording the trip so that you can see the effect that your donation has had.

Previously , we had issued a challenge, as a particular holiday was coming up. We offered the following Halloween-themed carrot: If we managed to raise $1,500 by Monday Oct. 11th, Tobias promised to do one of the following and post it on Facebook:

1.) Sing Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart”
2.) Perform a pre-determined scene from True Blood.

Please enjoy the following take on epic pop history. We all have to make our sacrifices in the name of a higher cause, and this is ours. Please forgive us Bonnie.

60 Charpais on the way

Today we ordered 60 charpais from Khyber Phukhtunwa Charpai house located in Quaidabad, Karachi. The owner Ayub Khan has agreed to sell each charpai for Rs. 1250 (CAD 14.8) , for which the total amounts to Rs 75,000. Mr. khan has also agreed to deliver the charpais on Tuesday, October 19 to the northern bypass relief camp for an additional cost of Rs. 2000.

We have paid a cash advance of Rs. 10,000 to Mr. Khan, below is the receipt of the transaction.

Charpai Research

As of this writing, we are but $70 away from having raised $1,500, equalling 100 beds for the Northern Bypass Camp!

If you haven’t donated yet, please consider doing so here.

We have been out researching the different types of charpais that might best suit the people of the camp.

Gung Ho brainstorming

We are more than half way through the semester. Recently we had a few classes of serious brainstorming leading to some realization of concepts. The students have narrowed down their ideas and are working on developing initial prototypes.
